Blueprints for the Otherwise, Handover: JJ Chan, Amy Sharrocks & Udit Thakre

22 April - 14 May

Launch Event: Thu 21 April, 6-8pm

Blueprints for the Otherwise is a twelve-month residency programme that actively explores supportive art infrastructures through mutual processes of development and commission. As the 2021-22 residency draws to an end, JJ Chan will be handing over the baton to the next artists-in-residence, Amy Sharrocks and Udit Thakre.

An overriding concern for ‘critical care’ structured JJ’s time with Bloc Projects, which we will share via the following: a three-week event series; an evolving exhibition; and a publication titled Blowing Water, Critical Care.

JJ Chan is an artist working across and amid sculpture, moving image, and writing. Their investigation of portraiture and self-portraiture seeks new cartographies of gender, identity, and collecting. Through storytelling and world-building, their work (re)searches for an alternative space beyond aggressively progressive capitalist time.

Amy Sharrocks is an artist, learner, mother and swimmer who invites people to come on journeys in which their own experience, communication and expression are a vital part. Her work tries to consider the impact we have on each other and the world.

Udit Thakre is a reader, a psychologist, a swimming teacher and a bicycle user based in Sheffield. He is an Indian citizen on a Graduate Visa in the UK. His neurodivergence is characterised by ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia. This is his first project as a socially engaged artist.
