Blueprints for the Otherwise, Week 2: Reading, walking & sharing soup

29 & 30 April

Every Friday and Saturday between 22 April and 7 May, we are going on walks and bike rides; cooking and eating food; and channelling rage through a group workshop at the gallery. We are looking forward to embodying and working through some of the key reflections from the last twelve months on / around ‘critical care’.

These events mark the official handing over of the Blueprints for the Otherwise residency from JJ Chan to collaborating artists Amy Sharrocks and Udith Thakre. They will continue to examine the potentials of socially responsive art infrastuctures via Bloc Projects as an organisation.

Fri 29 April, 12-4:30pm: Reading & long foraging walk

(Documentation images: Jack Whiting)

Come on a special reading, walking and foraging session.

We will meet at the gallery and select a text, including our residency publication Blowing Water, Critical Care. Together, we will walk to the 181 bus stop and take the bus to the source of Porter Brook. We will walk from there back into town, taking stops to read and look at plants. Accompanying us will be Peter Moulam, a Sheffield-based foraging expert who will introduce us to edible / medicinal plants along the way. We will also collect water samples from the river for the final week’s events.

Please dress for the weather, wear sensible shoes and bring water, ample snacks / lunch and a cotton bag for possible plant collecting.

Sat 30 April, 2-6pm: Cooking & eating the words (soup making 2-4pm; eat with us 4-6pm)

Cook some soup with us using seasonal vegetables and — with some luck — foraged plants from our walk. We will have a cooking station safely installed in our gallery. Alongside this will be our reading materials that you are welcome to peruse and discuss with others. You are invited to contribute your thoughts and feelings by inscribing them onto our walls.

No need to book, just show up!
