We are delighted to present what stories live inside your walls?, a new billboard commission by artist and curator april forrest lin 林森. Exploring the rental experience as a kind of modern horror, the work takes the viewer within their domestic and personal spaces to explore what they have born witness to. Drawing from their own experience renting property in London, april forrest lin 林森 is feeling out histories of ownership, the lopsided relationship between tenants and landlord and the intimacies of homemaking. Where the visual highlights the external sediments of a room — damp, dust and peeling paint — the audio is an invitation to listen to the walls: what do they know? What conditions make it (im)possible to have a home? The piece is an extension of Debtford, their ongoing horror non-fiction film project about a room they used to rent in Deptford, southeast London.

april forrest lin 林森 (b. Stockholm, 1996; they/them) is a London-based artist, curator, and film programmer. Their interdisciplinary practice invokes thematic portals of multispecies epistemologies, the archival and the anti-archival, trans embodiment and the vernacular of the diasporic. Their work has been screened and exhibited at arts institutions, festivals, galleries, universities, and DIY spaces internationally, including the Museum of the Moving Image New York, Sheffield DocFest, the Barbican Centre, FACT Liverpool and HAU Berlin.
