A new Key Strand at Bloc Projects, ESEA Futures is a programme foregrounding East and Southeast Asian art practices, co-presented with the wonderful Platform Asia.

In recent years, Bloc Projects has commissioned a number of boundary-pushing art works that highlight ESEA (East and Southeast Asian) experiences in the UK. With Platform Asia, we are excited to grow and co-develop an annual programme dedicated specifically to ESEA diasporas and art. Our hope is to nourish and provide space for ESEA imaginings through exhibitions, events and other learning opportunities.

The inaugural ESEA Futures 2025 programme includes:

    •    The Restoration of Happiness - a group show showcasing contemporary Southeast Asian perspectives (11 Oct - 15 Nov). Featuring Krerkburin Kerngburi, Elizabeth Gabrielle Lee, Chulayarnnon Siriphol and Quỳnh Anh Trần

    •    A post-launch event party / gig at Gut Level (Fri 10 Oct). Featuring Sayang and Kom Kom

    •    Screening of Both Sides Now 10, presented by videoclub (Thu 23 Oct). A milestone edition featuring a selection of moving image works from UK and Hong Kong

Platform Asia develops opportunities for Asian artists by presenting, discussing and creating works, while promoting Asian artists’ work to audiences. Calling the UK as our home, we connect professionals and audiences who are interested in and new to Asian art and culture via a developing UK-Asia network, and by showing work that inspires and builds appreciation of contemporary Asian art.
