We are delighted to present Technofossils by Liuba Arutiunova, an audio-visual piece selected from our Bloc Members’ Billboard Commission open call. You can see and listen to the piece any time of day outside our gallery on Eyre Lane.

Technofossils a speculative collection of future fossils made from environmental pollution, technological waste, and materials linked to major social and economic events such as wars and pandemics. The organic and synthetic collide to form a possible future heritage of human-made artifacts that are embedded into the earth’s geological layers: just as bones once became stones, objects like industrial waste, cars, furniture, and smartphones may stay in the environment due to their synthetic, non-biodegradable nature.

The accompanying soundscape similarly blends organic sounds with synthesisers that reflect the materiality and hybrid nature of these sculptures, hearkening the landscape within which these fossils would be found.

Liuba Arutiunova’s CGI work is research-driven and inspired by colour, quirkiness, and abstract organic surrealism with a playful, fluid approach. She enjoys exploring contrasts between objects of diverse origins through material, form, texture, and movement. Inspired by the beauty of storytelling, her work aims to translate sensory experiences into expressive visual stories filled with emotion, depth, and a touch of silly joy.

They have a background in software development and a keen interest in sociology, fashion and environmental studies.
