Geometry & Gesture brings together for the first time these four award winning Sheffield Artists to explore notions of constraint and freedom through often radical, sometimes playful, approaches to paint and materials. Colourful, joyous, rigorous and dynamic, each artist draws on a range of sources including memories, the urban environment and the mapping of real and imaginary landscapes.
A special series of essays written by Bloc Studios artist and writer Sean Williams has been commissioned for this exhibition. Read his reflections on the Geometry & Gesture show and on the works of:
Stephen Carley is an artist / teacher; Winner of the Latimer award for painting from the Royal Scottish Academy, a regular exhibitor at the Royal West of England Academy and a member of the London Group / recipient of the Presidents Exhibition Prize.

Myfanwy Williams exhibits nationally and internationally: her work has been exhibited at the Discerning Eye, the Herrick and Menier Galleries, and the Affordable Art Fairs in London. She has also exhibited in Athens, Prague and Paris, where she was awarded the Prix Monte Dei Fiori.

Kate Jacob exhibits nationally; her work has been exhibited at The Graves, Sheffield, Wolff Gallery, London and the Cupola, Sheffield. She’s also developed and run art projects including Print and Drawing Summer Schools with Stephen Carley and co-founded Open up, South Yorkshire’s annual studio event.
Nick Grindrod exhibits nationally and has work in numerous private collections. He is represented by Afternyne contemporary, Smithson Gallery and Karen 19 gallery in Australia.
