An ode to her hometown, this exhibition is a reflection on the idea of ‘home’ from an immigrant perspective and the melancholy arising from intense nostalgia, longing for a home that is no longer as before.

With installation, video, sound and works on paper, Leung makes a subtle commentary on the changing political status and social landscape of the city and how these changes have made it impossible for some Hong Kongers to return home. While the reference is to a specific place, the artist’s message extends more broadly to immigrants' experiences of displacement and cultural longing.

The artist hopes that visitors to this exhibition will find strength in the idea that no matter what difficulties life presents, and no matter what precious things are taken from us, there is always hope if we persist and come together. In this unity is our true home.

Biography

Pamela Leung is a Hong Kong Sydney-based artist, with a master of Fine Art from the National Art School, 2016. Following this, Leung received the Emerging Artist Prize in the 65th Blake Prize 2018.

She has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions in Australian galleries such as Art Space on The Concourse, May Space, Gallery Lane Cove, Grace Cossington Smith Gallery and Casula Powerhouse Art Centre. She has also participated in exhibitions at the Xiluo Old Street Cultural Museum and Beigang Culture Centre in Yunlin, Taiwan and at the Stockholm Independent Art Fair.

Pamela has held solo exhibitions at factory in Paris, Willesden Gallery in London, the Hong Kong Visual Art Centre in Hong Kong, and at Gallery Lane Cove, Incinerator Art Space, Airspace Projects, Articulate Project Space and Slot in Sydney. Her work is held in Casula Powerhouse Art Centre art collection and private collections in Australia, United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
