We are pleased to present a cross-section of work by practitioners who are part of Bloc Projects’ Members Scheme. For this year’s show, we have invited GLOAM to be our guest selectors. After careful consideration of the submissions, they have come up with an exciting group of work. Here is what they have to say:

“GLOAM is happy to have been invited to select artists for the Bloc Projects Members Show. We have selected pieces that are materially unreliable, performative in their appearance: camouflaged structures that call for surveillance (Sam Hutchinson); analogue-digitalities (Duncan Poulton); constructions mimicking industrial-organic forms (Julia McKinlay); familiar objects that now seem repulsive to touch (Will Hughes); and an ersatz birdhouse replicating historic, timbered architecture (Sam Hewland). The exhibition presents works that are fabricated, cladded, and call upon a 'veneered sensibility' through the semi-fictional, synthetic, and faux-textured.”

GLOAM is a collectively-run exhibition and studio space located in Sheffield City Centre. In 2020, GLOAM became a co-operative (with co-directors Stu Burke, Thomas Lee Griffiths, Victoria Sharples & Rose Hedy Squires), gained a ‘limited’ status, and moved to 160 Arundel Street where the DIY music venue ‘The Lughole’ once resided.
