Social Art Assembly, Tate Exchange, April, 2019

The Social Art Summit (socialartsummit.com) was an artist-led review of socially engaged arts practice in the UK, held in Sheffield in November 2018, and convened by Social Art Network. By convening practitioners from around the country to share practice and discuss ideas, the Social Art Summit explored what it means to be making art through social engagement right now. Monthly meet-ups took place from April 2018 in Sheffield to gather like-minded practicioners, and share practice and ideas. Post-summit, similar groups began meeting in towns and cities across the country, and the Sheffield group continued to flourish.

For 2020, the group will restart its meetings at Bloc Projects on Tuesday 28th January. As well as providing a regular meeting place for those interested in social practice and socially engaged art, we will start to look at questions of how Social Art Network can engage with the altered socio-political landscape of the UK in this moment.

Aimed at artists, activists, community groups, curators, students, academics, funders working in the social realm, the Social Art Network aims to develop agency in the field of art and social engagement. If you are interested in being part of the discussion, come along to Bloc Projects on Tuesday 28th January at 6.30 p.m.
