Bloc Billboard – Rob Flint

Friday 10 June 2016

10 June – 1 July 2016

Bloc Projects is pleased to present About the Work, a new billboard by Nottingham based artist Rob Flint.

About the Work is an ongoing writing project by Flint that takes various forms, from performances and readings to texts and prints.

For the Bloc Billboard, About the Work is manifest as a series of repetitive statements describing an absent object or ‘work’. Conveying an object of continually shifting shape, described in terms by turn exaggerated and mundane, the billboard is at once an unreliable signpost for another ambiguous form, an object that describes itself, and a series of instructions or demands placed upon the viewer.

Rob Flint is an artist whose work uses the idea of the voice, in spoken and written form, with sound and text. In the ‘90s he played tiny European venue with little-known electronica quartet Ticklish. Since 2006, with Christine Sullivan, he created a series of works exploring description and narration, including The Bill Burroughs Memorial Choir; Conversation Piece; in Hlysnan; at Casino Luxembourg in Luxembourg. Recently his spoken-chorus work Sky Blue, Hyson Green was commissioned by The New Art Exchange in Nottingham for performance in June 2016, in response to Beverley Bennett’s Dissonance project and exhibition.

This billboard is the last in our 2015/16 series; we’ll be announcing our next series of Bloc Billboards soon, selected through our membership programme. To find out more about our membership projects and how to join the scheme, visit our membership page.
